Detailed Account of the Battle of Austerlitz
The battle of Austerlitz was arguably Napoleon's greatest military achievement. The crushing victory of the Franch Army over the Austrian and Russian Allies features often in the memoirs of Napoleon's soldiers. There are, however, very few accounts of the battle from the rank of the vanquished. The best of these accounts is by the Austrian General Stutterheim, who commanded a brigade of cavalry in Lt Gen Kienmayer's Advance Guard of the 1st Column. This is a remarkably objective account written shortly after the battle, when the facts were fresh in his mind.
