The weekend of the 19th/20th July 1919 was arguably the most momentous in the history of Luton. What began as an afternoon of peace celebrations marking the end of the Great War turned into riots that had by the Sunday morning eft the Town Hall a smouldering, gutted ruin with the military in control the town.
